Another year is coming to an end! It’s that time once again to eat, drink and be merry with lots of things to do while buzzing in and around Tampa Bay. A traditional holiday season must, The Nutcracker, will again take center stage at Carol Morsani Hall at David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts from December 16th thru the 18th. This classic holiday favorite will have international guest artists performing with the awardwinning dancers of Next Generation Ballet. Visit: www.StrazCenter.org

Keeping in the spirit of the season, experience an old-fashioned Victorian Christmas Stroll of the former 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel with its Grand Hallway, 14 exhibit rooms and other decorated areas. This year’s theme includes whimsical teacups, antique toys and ringing bells with costumed carolers singing from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol along for the visit. This runs from December 1st to 23rd, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm daily. Proceeds fund museum restoration and preservation projects. Visit: www.PlantMuseum.com

On December 18th, offer your support to the Interbay-Glover YMCA’s Great Amazing Race. Teams of two will race around a 1-mile cross country course that includes games, relays, obstacle courses and more. Visit: www.GreatAmazingRace.com

The 142nd Ringling Brothers & Barnum and Bailey Circus’ “Greatest Show on Earth” will be rolling into town on January 4th thru 8th at the St. Pete Times Forum. Sanding Ovations Master Sand Sculpting Competition and Music Festival from November 17th to 20th will be held at the Bilmar Beach Resort on Treasure Island. The cooler weather is taking me back to those “Nirvana” happy days when we in Tampa Bay enjoy football, baseball and hockey. Most of all, the start of Fall makes for great times with lots of do around town.

First, we must give kudos to Julie Weintraub’s, Hands Across The Bay, whose Tampa Bay’s Dancing with the Stars ~ Broadway Edition on October 1st was in her own words, “The best DWTS ever!” The dancing was incredible and “celebrities” around Tampa Bay set the bar high but Sarah Jon Porreca rocked the stage and took home the trophy. Looking for a great family trip… consider a visit to The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art on the Tarpon Springs Campus of St. Petersburg College. The Museum’s 20th century collection is made up of art from Abraham Rattner’s estate donated by Allen and Isabelle Leepa and a large donation made by the Tampa Museum of Art in 1997.
