Meet Tampa Bay’s Hardest Working Model – Angee Killian Huntley

Angee Killian Huntley looks familiar to you, you’re probably right. For the last five years, the Dover, Florida native has been working full-time as a model and making her mark in Central Florida with her strikingly beautiful photos, including a golden goddess-like image used for the cover of Panache Vue in January 2012.

“It was gorgeous; a stunning cover,” professes Huntley, who dressed to impress in several of Dali Hernandez’s garments as part of a profile on the designer. “I’d rank that shoot up there in the Top 5 of awesome shoots I had in 2012. The team was phenomenal; I couldn’t have asked for a better team of individuals. And the editors did a fantastic job of showing off House of Dali’s designs.”

It was the latest in a series of high-profile projects that Huntley has participated in since landing her first cover for The Tampa Tribune’s 2010 Wedding Guide: Florida Bride, an assignment that included a six-page spread in the magazine.

“It was one of my most proud moments as a model,” gushes Huntley, who admits it’s not easy to get noticed for your talents in this business. “To accomplish something so amazing in such a short amount of time in this industry, and to get it on my own, that’s an even better feat!”

It’s no small accomplishment landing coveted cover shoots, but it’s all Huntley has really dreamed about since she was eight years old.

“I remember my mother taking me to castings, to meet with agents, numerous photo shoots and fashion shows,” recalls Huntley, who looks up to supermodels Cindy Crawford and Christie Brinkley for their timeless beauty. “Being so young and new to the industry, everything looked very exciting and I loved everything about it!”

Huntley’s passion for modeling hasn’t dwindled in the least, thanks to exhilarating projects like portraying Gala Dalí at the opening of the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg.

“Playing the part of Dalí’s wife, I made myself look like her for the guests in attendance,” says Huntley. “It was a lot of fun walking around such an amazing place, looking at all the wonderful works of art and seeing everyone enjoy us being there. It was a huge hit!”

And Huntley believes the hits will keep on coming in the years to come, despite the added responsibility of being a wife and mother these days.

“I have a very large support group when it comes to my husband and daughter,” declares Huntley, who says that she wouldn’t be where she is today without the support of everyone around her. “I’m not going to say its easy juggling being a mom and wife, but somehow I manage to make it all come together and work best for us, which allows me to pursue what I love to do.”

Huntley, who has worked with prominent Tampa Bay designers like Hernandez, Ivanka Ska and Nicole Mabalot and Michelle Cobble of Wicked Betty during her career, is ready forher next picture-perfect close-up.

Plaid About You

Make a Bold Statement in This Season’s Tartan Styles

It’s easy to stand out in the crowd this holiday season. Simply sport one of fall/winter’s hautest trends: plaid. It’s not only a chic-yet-classic pattern, but it’s easily wearable and available in every possible iteration you can imagine—everything from tops and skirts to stylish accessories.

There’s no denying that noted designers like Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors and Roland Mouret are passionate about plaid, as evidenced by their tartan-infused fall/winter collections.

But this season they’ve taken the trend and really turned it on its ear, more than we’ve seen in seasons past. Designers like Thakoon and Tory Burch have managed to breathe new life into the classic fabric by reinvigorating it with bold colors, dramatic contrasts and larger-than-life scales.

And the world’s oh-so-stylish celebrities have taken notice. Fashionistas like Olivia Wilde, Kylie Minogue and Rihanna have been photographed in plaid. Even the world’s newest style icon, Kate Middleton, is apparently wild about plaid. The Duchess of Cambridge recently returned to her alma mater dressed in a navy and green Alexander McQueen dress coat, which matched the green and plaid outfits worn by the prep school students.

Whether you’re glamming it up with tailored and structured pieces or mixing it with leather and sheer fabrics for a more laid-back look, ‘tis the season to be mad about plaid!

So if you’re ready to stand out in the crowd this season, here are some ways to introduce plaids into your wardrobe.

Accessory to the Crime
If you’re not too comfortable with wearing the popular pattern on your clothing, choose a plaid accessory. Investing in a tartan handbag or shoe is a great way to rock the trend without going completely over the top. Designers like Betsey Johnson have created some plaidtastic pieces that will keep you on trend without making you feel too self-conscious.

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire
This season, printed pants are all the rage; it’s a trend that has proven to have some serious legs. So if you’re ready to walk tall in an eye-catching look, why not don a pair of plaid pants? Sure, it may seem a bit risky to wear bold bottoms. But if you pair them with a solid colored blouse, you’ll keep the drama to a minimum while letting the pants do all the talking. Be sure to choose a top that matches one of the colors in your pants to insure a beautifully blended look.

Mix & Match
If you’re not afraid to boldly go where few fashionistas have gone before, consider pairing your plaids with equally bold patterns. Sure it isn’t easy to mix patterns, but once you’ve mastered it, you won’t be able to stop mixing and matching all the patterns and prints in your wardrobe. For example, pairing a high-waisted plaid skirt with a polka dot top will give you a chic an effortless look.

From pants to outerwear, plaid is covering everything this season. So don’t be surprised if you end up going wild for plaid, a pattern synonymous with crisp, fall days. And embracing the power of plaid will no doubt take you straight into winter in sophisticated style! So get ready to go mad!

Andrew Ashton & Steven Anderson Introduce Their First-Ever Collection at Tampa Bay Fashion Week

Since 2008, Andrew Ashton and Steven Anderson have been actively involved in the behind-the-scenes goings-on at Tampa Bay Fashion Week. In recent years, the dynamic duo has even stepped up its responsibilities to include overseeing the hair & makeup artists at the all-important designer runway show.

But this year Ashton and Anderson, with their combined 50-plus years of experience in the beauty industry, have taken their involvement to the next level by premiering their first-ever collection of couture designs – the Ashton Anderson line – at this year’s event, which celebrates its fifth year in existence.

“Steven and I have worked on tons and tons of photo shoots, as well as television and runway shows, so we’ve always been around fashion,” asserts Ashton, the co-owner of La Posh Salon in Clearwater who doesn’t claim to be a fashion designer, but rather a fashion enthusiast. “We’ve always discussed evening gowns as something we love. And this just seemed like a natural next step!”

So this spring, Ashton and Anderson began sketching their ideas. And, they worked with a seamstress to bring 14 of their varied designs to life.

“Stephen and I think differently about dresses; and you can probably tell which ones are my designs and which are his,” states Ashton, who finds inspiration in things like architecture, while Anderson prefers more classic silhouettes like those found in Old Hollywood. “We wanted to show beautiful gowns that women could actually wear to special events. And we worked on these dresses for what seemed like forever! We spent hours and hours even sewing the dresses ourselves!”

In the end, Ashton and Anderson created an wide-ranging collection of 11 show-stopping gowns that wowed the crowd at Tampa Bay Fashion Week and left pair overwhelmed with emotion.

“We wanted to cry. And we probably did,” says Ashton with a laugh. “I woke up the next morning almost depressed, and I texted Steven saying, ‘Okay, what do you want to do now?’ This was just a fun thing, something we just wanted to try our hand at. And it turned into something people loved!”

So now that they’ve managed to steal the show with their first collection of eye-catching evening gowns, Ashton and Anderson definitely see more fashion in their future.

“For the next line, we’ll probably do something more cohesive,” pronounces Ashton. “This collection was more everywhere. It worked out because we used a similar color palette, and that’s how we pulled the line together. But next time we’ll merge our ideas a little more.”

If this first attempt is any indication, Ashton and Anderson are well on their way to becoming the next big thing in fashion. And it may not be too long before you spot Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez or Sarah Jessica Parker on the red carpet in an Ashton Anderson original.

How Merlot Can You Go?

Spice Up Your Wardrobe with Fall’s Haute Hue: Burgundy

It’s quite common in the fall for fashionistas to head to the dark side by incorporating the usual colors of black, brown and charcoal grey into their wardrobes. But there’s no reason to (red, red) whine if you don’t want to dress like a New Yorker.

A La Moda - Burgundy

This season, you can still make a bold style statement in another deep color: burgundy. It’s not only one of the hautest hues this fall, but it’s richer and more intense than the typical dark shades spotted this time of year.

Simply take a closer look at the fall/winter collections from Christian Siriano, Diane von Furstenberg and Jason Wu and you’ll notice that several of the industry’s most noted designers seem to be mad about merlot. During their runway shows in Milan, New York and Paris, they showcased the vibrant color on everything from leather dresses and velvet pants to knee-high boots and attention-grabbing accessories.

And if you’re still unsure about filling your closet with sangria-hued pieces, keep in mind that burgundy doesn’t have the harsh appearance that black sometimes does, especially on fair-skinned women.
So if you’re ready to get noticed in the oh-so-trendy tint, here are some ways to sprinkle your wardrobe with wine-colored statement pieces:

Monochromatic Magic
If you’re looking to create a monochromatic look with conspicuous colors this fall, consider wearing head-to-toe burgundy. Examples include a pair of crimson jeans, jacket and boots, as well as a Bordeaux-colored dress with matching merlot-tinted tights and shoes. No matter which ensemble you put together, you’ll leave black- and grey-wearing women seeing (deep) red with resentment for not embracing the trendy tone.

Going for Baroque
Inspired by 17th century baroque styles, fashion brands like Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana have captured the dramatic style of the period by creating prominent pieces that feature intricate details and elaborate ornamentation. Available in several rich burgundy shades, the awe-inspiring attire will have you standing out in the crowd in style. And you don’t even have to wear baroque head to toe to be trendy! Simply try a single blouse or skirt and pair it with a solid.

Bohemian Rhapsody
Here’s one way to intermix this fall’s haute hue with one of the season’s hot trends: invest in a bohemian-print dress in burgundy. Whether you wear the dress on its own or under a fitted jacket, you’ll be channeling the spirit of the late-‘60s while making a bold statement in the process.

So whether you pick out an outfit that has you in head-to-toe burgundy or select simple cabernet-colored statement pieces like a baroque skirt or bohemian dress, there’s no doubt you’ll be mad about merlot-colored clothing this season!

Block Party

Revel in This Season’s Tri-Color Trend!

The dog days of summer are upon us, with the sultriest days of the season ahead. And if you’re looking to add some extra sizzle to your looks to rival the high heat outdoors, this is the perfect time to incorporate this season’s hot color-blocking trend into your wardrobe.

A La Moda - Block Party

Sure, it may not be a new concept in the fashion world, but the color-blocking trend—the combining of three or more colors that both complement and support each other—is back with such a bang this season that you can’t overlook it.

This summer designers like Donna Karan, Phillip Lim and Carolina Herrera have joined the (block) party. From crafting vibrant-colored garments that can be perfectly mixed and matched together to producing individual pieces and accessories that create the color-block effect for you, they’ve embraced the tri-color trend in a big way this season.

And if you’re looking for eye-catching examples of the color-block effect, just open up the latest issue of Us Weekly and OK! Magazine. This summer, style-savvy celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry and Jessica Alba have been snapped taking fashion-forward risks and experimenting with fun color combinations like hot pink, emerald green and tangerine.

So if you’re ready to block out in sizzling style this summer, here are some ways to help you master the tri-color trend:

A La Moda - Block PartyAccessory to Style
Not one to “go bold or go home” when it comes to taking fashion risks? Well, you can still embrace the color-block trend without committing to a full outfit of three haute hues. From combining a few colors to your nail palette to wearing three colorful bangles or a color-blocked pair of shoes, you can still take small steps to stand out in style. And here’s an easy way to incorporate the trend into your makeup: Stila’s user-friendly eye shadow trio provides a base color, one for the crease and one that you can use as an eyeliner.

Cheat the System
If you’re hoping to integrate the color-block trend into your wardrobe without worrying about which hues to pair together, you’re in luck! Designers like Marc Jacobs and Alberta Ferretti have made it easy for you to look like a real fashionsta by creating individual pieces, like color-blocked dresses, that do all the work for you. Simply pick one that flatters your skin tone and personal style.

It’s All Complementary!
To create a harmonious look when color-blocking with separates, mix different hues of the same color – think turquoise, sky blue and navy or pale pink, bright pink and fuchsia. And, if you’re going with bolder colors, make sure to keep warmer tones like orange and red together. And make sure to go for a neutral-toned shoe and accessories to keep it simple.

Opposites Attract
If you’re ready to take your style up a notch, why not start mixing different shades together? Combinations like cobalt blue, yellow and orange or chocolate brown, pink and peach don’t just look great together, but they can help brighten a room. Just remember that hues opposite each other on the color wheel are the ones that usually complement each other best.

No matter how you choose to incorporate this summer’s scorching triple-tint trend into your wardrobe, don’t be afraid to mix up your wardrobe with blocks of color and have fun with it.

Peplum Power

Flip for This Season’s Flaptastic Fashion Trend!

It may be that not-so-noticeable transition period between spring and summer in the Sunshine State, but that doesn’t mean you have to swap your ladylike style for less sophisticated fare like billowy shorts and familiar flip-flops.

A La Moda - Peplum PowerIf you’re looking to highlight your flair for fashion, consider embracing this season’s haute peplum trend. Not only will you showcase your refined sense of style, but you’ll be able to create a flattering silhouette while doing it.

It could be considered a fashion flashback. After all, the roots of the peplum trend—defined by a short flared ruffle that sits at the natural waist—can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece, when people would wear a tunic or long garment with a flap of fabric folded and belted around the waist. It grew quite popular in the mid-19th century, entered high fashion in the 1940s and became a full-on craze in the 1980s after making ample appearances on primetime soap operas like Dynasty, Dallas and Falcon Crest.

But don’t worry; this season’s peplum styles aren’t as exaggerated as they were back in the 80s. Instead, restrained representations of the flaptastic style resurfaced on the runways in Milan, Paris and New York City, popping up on dresses, jackets and pants designed by the likes of industry icons like Giorgio Armani, Alberta Ferretti and Vera Wang.

And Hollywood’s style-savvy celebrities have taken notice of the flare trend, which with the right fit can be flattering for most women. Starlets like Blake Lively, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Emma Stone and Michelle Williams have been photographed wearing hip-accentuating pieces on and off the red carpet. Even fashion’s new ‘It’ girl Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has been spotted wearing peplum dresses and suits.

So if you’re ready to get frilled-up this summer while looking fantastically fit and strikingly shapely, here are some ways to embrace the power of peplum this season.

A La Moda - Peplum PowerA Perfect Fit
When updating your wardrobe with peplum pieces, keep in mind that there are actually two types: fitted and flared. If you’re hoping to show off your hourglass figure, choose a fitted peplum. On the other hand, flared pieces will help create the illusion of curves and are the perfect choice for boy-shaped bodies.

Two in a Bush
This season, why not add two trends to your wardrobe with one single piece? From Jason Wu’s hot pink pencil skirt to Rodarte’s neon green pantsuit, some of this season’s most dazzling peplum designs come in haute hyper colors. So if you’re ready to pop it like its hot, pick out a ruffled garment in a bold color!

Prints of Tides
Sure you can easily find a peplum piece in a single color; but some of the most dramatic garments come in bewitching prints. For inspiration, check out Anna Sui’s tribal-patterned dress with its lengthy ruffle or Nina Ricci’s peplum piece that combines several floral prints and lace to create the ultimate feminine silhouette.

So whether you decide to go for a peplum jacket in a bold color or a ruffled dress in an eye-catching print, there’s no denying the power of peplum. Just remember to find a flared piece with a soft structure. And, look for jersey fabrics with a bit of stretch to give you the right amount of hip-enhancing volume and drape without overwhelming your frame.

Speakeasy Style

Embrace This Season’s Haute Flapper Trend

If you’re looking to jazz up your wardrobe this spring, you may need to take a trip back in time to the 1920s. Much like the release of a 3D-enhanced version of Titanic in theaters this April, many of this season’s hottest looks could be considered a blast from the past with a modern twist.

Haute Flapper

Call it a “Roaring Twenties revival,” a resurgence quite possibly inspired by Hollywood’s fascination with the enchanting era that gave birth to a new type of woman—the fashionable flapper. In recent years, there’s been an increase in TV shows and films set in the 1920s, including HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and the highly anticipated Great Gatsby remake.

Along with entertaining audiences with their high drama, the projects—featuring award-winning costume designs—have made a major impression on the fashion world. This spring, designers like Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs and Alberta Ferretti have welcomed the trend by dusting their collections with flapper-like pieces, including dazzling dresses that feature 1920s-inspired beading, fringing and drop-waists.

Haute Flapper

And starlets like The Artist’s Bérénice Bejo, who wore several smart looks from the era in her Oscar-winning film, have been spotted striking a pose on the red carpet in Roaring Twenties reinterpretations from Gucci, Oscar de la Renta and Marchesa.

So if you’re ready to make a bold fashions statement this season, here are some ways to incorporate some trendy Gatsby-inspired pieces into your wardrobe and unleash your flapper spirit:

Drop It Like Its Hot
If you’re not completely sure you can pull off fringe or feathers, don’t despair. It’s still quite possible to roar into 1920s fashion. Simply look for a flowy frock with a deeply lowered waistline. Regardless of your body type, a drop-waist dress will flatter your figure while helping you stay right on trend.

Art Deco
The eclectic Art Deco style, which began in Paris in the 1920s and spread throughout the world throughout the 1930s, had a great influence on flapper fashion. Designers began incorporating the awe-inspiring Art Deco style—which represented elegance, glamour and modernity—into their glam garments by creating similar patterns with sequins, jewels and beads. Fortunately, it seems that history is repeating itself with this season’s collections! Designers like Matthew Williamson have created similarly stunning Art Deco-inspired looks that, like those of days gone by, will surely turn heads with every stylish step you take.

Pretty in Pastels

Donning a flapper-inspired dress in a bold, look-at-me hue like tangerine or coral not your thing? No worries! This spring, designers have incorporated another haute craze into their voguetastic 1920s-inspired looks: pastels. So if you’re hoping to give off a low-key, ladylike vibe, look for a flapper-like dress in a sweet sorbet shade. Not only will you flaunt your understated style, but you’ll show the world just how fashionable you are by rocking two trends at once.

Sleepeasy Style
Pajama dressing may have originated during the Jazz Age, but the lounge-in-style trend is making a colossal comeback. This spring, designers have captured the comfort of those silky separates that were popular in the 1920s and given them a street-friendly look. The end result: a sleepeasy style that will make an impression well beyond the bedroom.

No matter how you choose to integrate this spring’s haute flapper trend into your wardrobe, rest assured that you’ll be roaring with sophisticated style.

In Full Bloom

Cultivate Your Style in Spring’s Fadtastic Floral Patterns

In Full BloomSpring is in the air; and it appears that everything’s coming up roses (and azaleas, and tulips).

After several seasons of fashion offerings in a tomboy style— male wardrobe staples like military jackets, boyfriend jeans and combat boots—this spring marks the triumphant return of femininity. No longer borrowing from the boys, designers like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch and Ralph Lauren are bringing back the pretty—everything from ladylike short suits in softer sorbet shades to flapper-like dresses inspired by the Roaring Twenties.

But this season’s ka-blooming floral print trend is undoubtedly the girliest of the bunch! After all, is there anything more feminine than a beautiful floral pattern?

This season, designers like Giambattista Valli, Anna Sui and Matthew Williamson have taken a fresh approach to florals, seeding their spring/summer collections with oversized blooms, asymmetrical motifs and wallpaper-worthy botanicals in a variety of chic colors, everything from pale pastels to oh-so-noticeable neons. The end result: marvelously modernized flower-patterned dresses, shirts and pants that will make you feel flirty and fabulous.

Even on-trend celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Zoë Saldaña and Taylor Swift are seeing life through rose-colored glasses. The stylish starlets have been spotted expertly rocking the floral trend in their everyday lives and on the red carpet.

In Full BloomMinimalist-Chic

Not really the “Mary, Mary quite contrary” type? Don’t worry; you really don’t have to be covered in flora from head to toe to stand out in the style crowd. Designers like Roland Mouret have fashioned some attention-grabbing garments with minimal blooms that offer a tip of the hat to the floral pattern trend.

Pumped Up!
If you aren’t afraid to introduce some considerable color into your wardrobe, you’re in luck! This spring, designers like Proenza Schouler and Thakoon have infused their flower-heavy collections with bright island colors like aquamarine, yellow and tangerine. For a very of-the-moment look, pairing two vivid shades in the same hue has never looked fresher.

Supersize It!
Maybe a wetter than normal winter is to blame; but some of this season’s most eye-catching botanical prints come in oversized blooms. Designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Adam Lippes and Paul Smith have produced some fashionable pieces that feature massive motifs. For the bold at heart, they are definitely stand-alone standouts. For the less daring, they can be paired with a solid-colored blazer or cardigan to downplay the drama. Either way, you’ll definitely be big on style. Just remember that oversized blooms are typically most flattering in lighter tones.

Mix ‘n Match
If you’re the type who takes fashion risks, why not mix and match two different prints together. Mismatched floral patterns can add a little rebellious flair to your look; while combining a botanical print with stripes or plaids can create a punk-meets-pretty effect. Neat tailored lines will help keep you looking sophisticated!

Garden Formal
Flowery patterns aren’t just for casual clothing! Even formal attire like evening wear, suits and gowns are getting the floral treatment. During this year’s runway shows in Milan, Paris and New York, several designers introduced red carpet worthy dresses featuring flowery flourishes. Not only are they elegant and romantic showstoppers, but they’re lavishly ladylike!

So whether you decide to take a subtle or extreme approach, there’s no doubt you’ll make your wardrobe blossom with feminine flair by embracing this season’s petal-perfect trend! Happy harvesting!

Safari Style

Embrace the Next Season’s Haute Tribal Trend Now

Safari Style

New York Fashion Week - Donna Karan (Spring 2012)

The first day of spring may not be until March 20, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start converting your wardrobe now. And while you’re making the transition between seasons, why not unleash your wild side?

One of this season’s most popular fashion fads appears to be inspired by Meryl Streep’s classic film Out of Africa. Don’t worry though, embracing the tribal trend doesn’t mean having to sport saggy safari suits or lackluster khakis.

This season, designers like Donna Karan, Michael Kors and Zuhair Murad have created African-inspired styles with a modern twist. Their spring/summer collections feature pieces that combine the traditional earth colors that reflect the tones of the continent’s untamed landscape with magnetic color and high-octane prints. The end result: Afri-luxe looks that will breathe some fresh Sahara air into any plain Jane ensemble.

But don’t take my word for it! Pick up the latest issue of Us Weekly or People and you’ll undoubtedly see images of celebrities like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian wearing exotic, tribal-print pieces that include intricate beading and crochet details.

Here are some ways to add a tribal-inspired twist to your wardrobe and go absolutely wild this spring:

Effortless Expedition
Designers like Oscar de la Renta and Derek Lam have all embraced the tribal trend and made it their own through a wide variety of vibrant patterns. If you’re not sure what silhouettes or colors will work best for your body type, remember to pick a simple shape since not all prints are the same. Try selecting two or three colors from the ethnic-inspired palette—like tan, gold and bronze—and work within those colors to keep your look classic and uncomplicated.

Tribal Trimmings
If you’re not sure how far you’re willing to go to introduce the tribal trend into your wardrobe or you’re just afraid of looking like Katherine Hepburn in The African Queen, consider warming up to the look with awe-inspiring accessories. Beaded bangles, wood rings and woven belts are a great way to start. But if you really want to stand out in the crowd, consider a bold statement necklace. Pair one with a cocktail dress for a night out or look equally chic wearing the same piece with a T-shirt and jeans.

To Dye For!
Traditionally, safari clothing is light-colored to help reflect the sun’s rays and blend in with the natural environment. But fashion brands like Bottega Veneta have strayed from the customary to infuse their tribal-inspired attire with spirited shades like red and tangerine—this season’s hottest hue. So if you’re ready to go bold, add some punch to your wardrobe by picking ethnic prints and patterns with a splash of color.

Touchy-Feely

Hello Dali – Presenting Tampa’s Rising Fashion Star, Dali Hernandez

Dali Hernandez

Dali Hernandez

Dali Hernandez has only been designing professionally for about three years, but she’s fast becoming one of Tampa Bay’s golden girls of fashion. She’s not only making headlines for her chic creations, the 34-year-old designer is even starting to reap rewards for her undeniable talent for making good-looking garments.

“I have been very blessed and have an amazing God-given talent,” recognizes Hernandez, who was recently named as one of Creative Loafing’s 2011 Best of the Bay runners-up in the Best Local Fashion Designer category. “This year, doing what I have been called to do has been the greatest reward.”

There’s no denying Hernandez was born to concoct and create attractive attire. And, it didn’t take the Puerto Rico-born designer long to recognize her life’s mission.

“I loved fashion as a child; I was very eccentric,” recalls Hernandez, who grew up in New York City and Massachusetts. “I used to get made fun of at school because I just came up with my own style. I never followed the trends; I really just did my own thing. And, I didn’t really care what people thought. I just kind of wanted to make a statement.”

So how did Hernandez develop such a fierce fascination for fashion in the first place? She apparently inherited it from the talented, stylish and inspirational women in her life. Dali’s mother, who learned how to sew at an early age and would make her daughter’s clothes; and her abuelita in Puerto Rico, who had an incredible fashion sense.

“I would sit at my grandmother’s vanity and play with her vintage jewelry, clutches and her gowns,” remembers Hernandez vividly of spending her summers on The Island of Enchantment. “She would buy and rework the gowns to her liking.”

Despite her passion for fashion, Hernandez didn’t pursue her design dreams right away. Instead she moved to the Bay Area to study business at the University of Tampa and later the International Academy of Design & Technology. She would go on to spend 10 years working as a financial broker until the nation’s economic downturn in 2007 forced her to reevaluate her life.

“I went to California and came back very inspired,” states Hernandez, who also experienced a few personal problems during that time that would help forever alter the course of her life. “After a major surgery and some life issues, I decided to focus on my mind, body and soul. And, I decided to do what I was born to do… design.”

Since then, Hernandez has quickly become a highly sought-after designer who’s sexy, edgy and sophisticated creations have been featured in numerous local newspapers, magazines and television programs. She even showed a collection for the first time ever at this year’s Tampa Bay Fashion Week runway show.

“It’s been a truly amazing year,” pronounces the self-proclaimed New York City designer with a penchant for leather, faux fur and heavy fabrics. “I’m most proud of how I’ve remained focused on my work. In life there will always be distractions, you’ve just got to keep pressing forward.”

It’s that affirmative attitude, combined with an uncanny knack for crafting chic clothing that compliments even the curviest of women, that will undoubtedly take Hernandez from Tampa Bay’s golden girl to international design star.

Dali’s Spring/Summer
2012 Collection

Hernandez’s latest collection, first showcased at Tampa Bay Fashion Week, was created with the “golden girl” in mind. A departure from her edgier fall collection, this season’s pieces are softer and more romantic, and they feature lace, ruffles, sheer fabrics, organza and sequins. For Dali, it represents “going through the fire…and coming out golden.”

Winter Blues – Lighten Up in This Season’s Haute Hue: Cobalt

Paris Fashion Week - Elie Saab - Haute Couture

Paris Fashion Week - Elie Saab - Haute Couture

There’s no denying the power of winter on our psyches. The shorter days and cooler nights can lead to a lack of motivation, lower energy levels and even a mild case of depression. But there’s one surefi re way to fight the winter doldrums… Infuse your wardrobe of the season’s usual suspects in browns, blacks and grays with the of the moment color: cobalt blue. After all, it’s a shade that not only adds just the right amount of light to those dark-too-soon days, but looks fi erce on any skin tone.

This season, designers like Zac Posen, Jil Sander and Nicole Miller aren’t afraid to show they’re crazy for cobalt! During this year’s fall/winter runway shows, they featured the oh-so-complimentary color on everything from sweaters and jackets to pants and dresses.

It’s really the go-to color for day or night. A cobalt blue dress is seriously stylish for a night out on the town; a pair of pants in that shade paired with a casual top give you a fun, yet simple day look.

So if you’re ready to lift your spirits during the dark days of winter, here are some ways to brighten up your style with this season’s vibrant hue:

POP GOES THE WORLD
There’s no reason to take the cobalt craze to the extreme. Simply adding a single piece in the icy-hot shade—like a sweater or pants—will not only provide a nice contrast to a basic black outfi t, but will give it just enough pop to help you stand out in the crowd.

BLOCK PARTY
It’s easy to combine this season’s haute hue with this year’s bold color-blocking trend, which requires incorporating multiple hues in an outfi t or a single garment. So whether you’re layering different shades of blue or a combination of jewel tones into your overall look, there’s no doubt you’ll add some visual punch to your appearance and be the belle of the (color) block. Just remember to limit yourself to a maximum of three shades to avoid looking like Rainbow Brite.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
From striking tribal designs to charming fl oral patterns, graphic prints are all the rage this season, especially when soused with a splash of cobalt blue. One look at Alberta Ferretti’s black, white and blue abstract print beadeddress proves it’s worth going bold!

2. Milan Fashion Week – Alberta Ferretti, 3. Milan Fashion Week – Jil Sander, 3. Paris Fashion Week – Gareth Pugh

So whether you dress in head-to-toe cobalt or incorporate splashes of the energetic shade into your wardrobe through color-blocking, picture-perfect print pieces or brilliant accessories, banishing the winter blues has never been easier. And, you’ll look stunning doing it!

Haute Spots

Embrace This Season’s Dotted Style Trend

There’s absolutely no doubt you’ll be seeing spots everywhere this fall. Polka dots, specifically! The posh and pleasant print is back in style this season! And it’s hauter than ever!

High-profile designers like Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney have embraced the freckled fad. This fall, they’ve dotted their chic collections with polka dots — big and small—in every color of the rainbow.

Meanwhile, celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Olivia Palermo and Katy Perry have been taking the trend from the catwalk to the sidewalk. Spotted in this season’s striking specks on and off the red carpet, they’ve inspired fashionistas around the world to do the same.

Even the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, seems to have a special fondness for the precious print. In the last year, she’s been photographed in polka-dotted clothing and accessories—from popular brands like Topshop and Cath Kidston—on numerous occasions.

Looking more sophisticated than ever, the of-the-moment print can be found on everything from cocktail dresses and skirts to hosiery and accessories.

So if you’re hoping to be spot-on trend this season, here’s some advice on picking the perfect polka-dotted pieces for you:

START SMALL
If you’re not totally convinced that the dots are for you, don’t worry. There’s no need to dress from head to toe in the graphic print to be on trend. Simply pick an accessory — like a handbag, shoes or scarf—to start with. Then work up the courage to go bigger and bolder later!

THE POWER OF ONE
The easiest way to wear the haute spots is to keep the rest of your outfit simple. To allow the print to really stand out, pick one flecked item to serve as your stylish centerpiece — like pairing a polka-dotted blouse with your favorite jeans or wearing a polka dot dress with solid shoes and accessories. By embracing the power of one, you’ll get maximum attention for your polka pieces.

SIZE MATTERS!
Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or embrace the trend with a little less attention, there’s a dot that’s right for you. Larger spots are a great way to add some eye-catching prints into your fall wardrobe, while smaller-sized specks can look more refined. Just remember tiny specks are typically best for petite women, medium spots work for most sizes and a bold dramatic dot can work for larger women.

In the end, it doesn’t matter how you choose to wear polka dots, as long as you’re not afraid to have fun and be a little daring. After all, the timeless print will have you looking mod and marvelous all at once!

Timeless Threads – Celebrating A Long History of fine Fashion

Timeless ThreadsRevolutionary French designer Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion changes, but style endures.” It’s easy to see the truth in that statement by examining the chic and sophisticated designs on display at the Past Perfect: A Celebration of Vintage Design retrospective at The Art Institute of Tampa, which kicked-off this year’s Tampa Bay Fashion Week.

“The garments we wear today are all derived from a rich history of designs that have been adapted to fit our modern day sensibilities and lifestyles,” proclaims Andrew Ashton, the owner of La Posh Salon who assembled this one-of-a-kind fashion display with his business colleague Steven Anderson. “For example, what was the chemise of the 1920s has been transformed into today’s little black dress.”

From a black silk, Kimono-style robe with a hand-embroidered flower motif, circa 1919, to a Halston sequined gown with a unique cloud design, circa 1978, the Past Perfect exhibit brings together nearly 140 years of everlasting fashions.

“It’s important to look back on designs from the past to help the next generation reinvent the future of fashion,” professes Ashton, who assembled the exhibit by borrowing historic pieces from fashionistas like intimates designer Rhonda Shear and Jill Wax, the owner of La France vintage clothing store. “It’s amazing how many people have garments from past decades!”

Timeless Threads - Three Images

Due to space limitations, Ashton and Anderson had to keep the exhibit down to less than 25 looks, which they admit wasn’t an easy task.

“We could only feature one or two articles from each decade,” admits Ashton. “With so many pieces to choose from, we really had to look at the condition of the clothing, and pick the finest examples of each decade.” The end result: a remarkable presentation of enduring styles that not only reflect our nation’s history, but helps set the standard of excellence for future designers.

The Past Perfect exhibit will be on display at The Art Institute of Tampa through Friday, October 21.

A portion of the proceeds from the Past Perfect Opening Night Party will benefit the 11/Eleven Dream Fund Scholarship, which supports students of the Art Institute of Tampa’s Fashion & Retail Management and Culinary programs.

Sweeping Style

The Ground’s the Limit in This Fall’s Haute Maxi Dresses & Skirts!

Paris Fashion Week - Christian Dior - Haute Couture - Fall 2011

Paris Fashion Week - Christian Dior - Haute Couture

September marks the beginning of autumn, which means it should start to cool down soon. Even though temperatures don’t drop much in Florida in the fall, you can still update your wardrobe by going with the (style) flow in this season’s hottest trend: maxi dresses and skirts.

Designers like Haider Ackermann, Derek Lam and Jason Wu aren’t just embracing the maxi trend this fall; they’re actually going to great lengths to bring on the drama with ankle-grazing dresses and skirts that demand serious attention.

From oh-so-precise pleats to prominent patterns—all available in breathable fabrics perfect for the Sunshine State’s warmer climate—this season’s ultra-long dresses and skirts will help you look effortlessly chic.

So if you’re ready to achieve maximum impact with minimal effort, here are some ways to let it flow, let it flow, let it flow:

Prints Charming
If you’re ready to make a bold statement in this season’s floor-sweeping styles, why not go long in print-heavy pieces like mosaic patterns inspired by stained glass, geometrics and tribal-inspired fabrics. During this fall’s runway shows, designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Peter Som helped shine a spotlight on the many powerful prints—everything from daring animal prints to dainty paisley—that will have you standing out in the crowd in high style.

Pleat the Fifth
While pleats aren’t really a novel concept, they’re getting a thoroughly modern makeover. This season, you’ll notice a plethora of pleats on floor-length creations by designers like Richard Chai and Vera Wang. Specifically, they’re incorporating knife pleats (single pleats all going in the same direction) and sunburst pleats (knife pleats that start small at the top and get wider towards the bottom to create a flared-out effect) in their designs. The end result: garments that emanate elegance and femininity without losing their casual cool.

Slash of the Titans
For a little added sex appeal take a cue from celebrities like Rachel Bilson, Emma Stone and Olivia Palermo. They’re spicing up their to-the-floor frocks with a slash of style. So if you’re fascinated by this season’s lengthier looks but don’t want to feel cloistered, consider a leg-baring maxi. The thigh-high slit won’t just keep the dress or skirt from making you feel completely confined; it will add just the right amount of danger and excitement to your already fashion forward look.

Sheer Genius
Sometimes revealing but always alluring, that’s one way to describe this fall’s see-through maxi dresses and skirts. After all, they can be pretty risqué. But you don’t have to be a runway model or have incontestable courage to pull off this eye-catching look with unaffected flair. There are plenty of sheer versions that will have you looking and feeling like a Greek goddess without revealing too much—including maxi skirts and dresses with semi-sheer fabrics, heavy pleats and inbuilt slips. And you can always pair your semi-transparent garment with an oversized sweater or cropped jacket. Just remember: it’s not about wearing something translucent, but how you wear it.

So whether you opt for a bold print or sheer sheath, there’s absolutely no doubt you’ll look simply mod-tastic in this season’s haute maxi dresses and skirts. So go ahead and give ‘em a swirl!

Immaculate Collection – Spend the Last Days of Summer White On Trend!

Gianfranco Ferre, Versace, Victoria Beckham

Gianfranco Ferre, Versace, Victoria Beckham

It’s hard to believe this long haute summer is already coming to a close. But don’t fret! You still have a chance to brighten up a room by embracing one of the coolest trends of the season: all white.

Sure it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that designers like Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham and Derek Lam have peppered their collections with a dash of salt. After all, white is one of the most popular summer staples. But this season’s looks are truly inspired. From eye-catching evening gowns and contemporary cocktail dresses to chic-yet-casual tops and oh-so-stylish shorts, the all-alabaster articles are fun, festive…and fresher than ever!

So if you’re ready to look white-hot during these final days of summer, here are some ways to be flawlessly fabulous in all-white:

The “It” Dress
For a little show-stopping style, put your favorite LBD back in the closet and zip yourself into this season’s must-have garment: the little white dress. Designers like Rick Owens, Isabel Marant and Hakaan Yildirim have blanched the black right out of the traditional LBD. Instead, they’ve created crisp and clean creations that are oh-so-stunning and sophisticated. There’s absolutely no doubt you’ll make a bold statement in your very own LWD!

Color Outside the Lines
If you’re worried about looking like Casper the Friendly Ghost in head-to-toe white, add a pop of color to enhance your already attention-grabbing ensemble. From a turquoise necklace to hot pink heels, the sky really is the limit on the colors you can integrate into your overall look, especially since you’re dealing with a perfect base color like white. Simply break open that box of crayons for some tintspiration and prepare to make a style splash!

Watch Your Tone!
From bone and eggshell to cotton and linen, there are so many shades of white, some brighter than others. Honestly, no one hue is better than the rest when embracing the all-white trend. So whether you’re going to work or attending an elegant affair, you’ll appear polished yet relaxed in any pearly tone. Better yet, why not mix and match different shades together? You’ll add some depth to an otherwise flat color palette and you’ll look monochromatically mod doing it!

Get Texturized
Uncomfortable looking too shiny and bright in all-white? Here’s a simple solution: invest in textured threads like blouses with a touch of lace, ruffled sundresses, cable-knit cotton sweaters and high-waisted linen trousers. Not only will they help dull the white noise, but they’ll add a little charm and character to your easy, breezy outfit.

Suit Up!
Designers like Thakoon and Narciso Rodriguez are giving new meaning to the phrase, “power suit!” This summer they’ve created some sleekly tailored all-white suits with smart silhouettes, including fitted jackets, streamlined pants and frilly tops that can all be easily paired together. But if you’re afraid of looking washed-out when you suit up, just add some colorful accessories to your gleaming and gorgeous getup.

So if you’re ready to look effortlessly chic and refined these last days of the season, break out the summer whites and prepare to stand out in style. Believe me, you’ll be pure perfection!

Haute Hues – Celebrating This Summer’s Technicolor Trend

Paris Fashion Week - Lanvin - Spring-Summer 2011If you’re looking to stand out in the crowd this summer, prepare to pop it like it’s hot! Bright colors are back…and they’re more eye-catching than ever. Whether you’re wearing a touch of tangerine, a mix of marigold and magenta or head-to-toe honeydew, you’ll be bright on trend in bold-colored clothing.

Designers like Sonia Rykiel, Nina Ricci and Victoria Beckham have infused this season’s must-have looks with an infinite scale of graphic color. From skin-tight mini dresses and chic cocktail gowns to sleekly tailored pants and flirty tops, it seems the sky…or in this case the rainbow…is the limit. Skip the pastels, though, and opt for captivating colors like blood orange, coral red, electric blue and neon yellow to make the biggest splash. After all, it’s the time to go bold…or go home!

So if you’re ready to infuse your wardrobe with a plethora of rich pigments, here are some ways to embrace this summer’s color craze:

A Splash of Color!
If you’re concerned about going bright from head to toe, consider dipping your toes in the color pool. Literally! Polishing your nails in a bright tint like Essie’s new summer shade, Meet Me at Sunset, is a great way to hue it up. It’s one of six shades that make up the company’s Braziliant collection. Even better, why not invest in supercharged accessories like a cobalt blue clutch, brick red baubles or salmon-colored sandals. They’ll give you a dash of color without being over the top.

It’s in the Jeans
If you’re really hoping to make a bold statement, then look to the stars. Celebrities like Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson and Kim Kardashian have been rocking this summer’s hottest denim trend: colored jeans. They’re not only all the rage right now, but they’re easy to wear. Simply mix a pair of juicy-hued jeans with a modern top, blouse or blazer to create a look that celebrates your own show-stopping style.

Block of Ages
Instead of limiting yourself to one bold color, why not combine several dynamic colors to create an energizing look. Simply pair, layer and tuck solid pieces together—like an orange evening dress with a hot pink belt and shoes—to create a refreshing and modern look. To avoid looking like Rainbow Brite, make a mental note to limit yourself to no more than three color combinations!

But if you’d rather leave it to the experts, designers like Alexis Mabille, Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs have artfully mixed colors to create some of this summer’s most stunning looks—everything from dresses to swimsuits, even shoes and accessories. It’s the best way to adopt the color-block trend without any of the guesswork.

So whether you’re mixing and matching strong shades or simply adding a pop of color to your look, don’t be afraid to experiment with color. In the end, you’ll be saying, “I love hue!”

Custom Couturier – Introducing Bridal Design Diva Terri Funaro

Bridal Gown by Terri Funaro

Gown by Terri Funaro

Bridal season is in full bloom and Terri Funaro couldn’t be happier. No she isn’t getting married; the noted fashion designer is actually helping fairy tales come true by creating custom gowns for Tampa Bay’s betrothed.

“I take such pleasure in designing a gown that no one else will have, a beautiful dress that’s flattering to their body type and fits them to perfection” professes Funaro, who has been creating one-of-a-kind garments for more than 20 years. “I get to share in one of the most wonderful and exciting events of a bride’s life!”

It’s that passion that has resulted in Funaro becoming a highly sought-after designer of timeless and elegant bridal gowns that channel the glamour of old Hollywood.

“I always loved that era and the designers of that time,” reveals Funaro. “Those were the gowns that I wanted to create! Yards and yards of fabric, re-embroidered French FA Alencon lace, tulle, beads and bows…Who could resist?”

But Funaro didn’t get her start in bridal design. The New York native actually began her career as an assistant designer at Vassarette, where she created haute lingerie, including a collection that caught the attention of Intimate Fashion News.

Summer Bride - Panache Vue' Magazine“I felt on top of the world,” exclaims Funaro. “I was able to go to luncheons and fashion shows at the iconic Waldorf Astoria and come back to work bursting with ideas. We were able to create our own prints, attend trend forecasting meetings and design whatever we wanted.”

Even though she was living large, Funaro knew lingerie design wasn’t her true calling. So she resolved to pursue her real love: bridal fashion. Soon after landing a plum position at Jena Bridal, Funaro’s work was being featured in publications like Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Brides. One of her designs even appeared on the cover of Modern Bride.

“To be recognized and appreciated for your work,” admits Funaro, whose stylish designs have been featured prominently at Fashion Week Tampa Bay. “It’s what everyone wants.”

But Funaro decided to leave all that behind and relocate to the Tampa Bay area soon after giving birth to her son.“I never thought I’d move to Florida,”recalls Funaro. “But after visiting my parents in Spring Hill every year and seeing the low cost of living and great quality of life—then heading back to my small house with high property taxes—I realized it was a good move.”

It’s a decision that has helped Funaro in more ways than one. She’s managed to grow as a designer by creating custom clothes for real people.

“Being in New York makes you forget about the needs of the rest of the country,” discloses Funaro. “If not for the move to Florida, I might still be designing for that elusive and imaginary perfect size zero model. You can be a little out of touch with the rest of the world in New York.”

Now that she’s living in the Sunshine State, Funaro has perfected the art of creating clothes that accent a woman’s best features.

“Every woman has a different body type and each knows what she wants to highlight or camouflage,”states Funaro. “That’s my starting point—finding out what they feel comfortable wearing. If they’re at ease in a beautiful dress that fits them to perfection, then they walk with confidence.”

It’s a lesson she’s hoping to teach the next crop of fashion designers as an instructor at the International Academy of Design & Technology in Tampa.

“When you love something and it brings you such satisfaction, you want to share that with others and hope they find as much joy in it as you do,”declares Funaro. “I want them to learn that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, that they shouldn’t be afraid to try and to keep at it!”

Now that she’s raised her family and has more time on her hands, Funaro is taking her own career advice. She’s already launched a collection of evening and bridal gowns and plans to introduce a line of lingerie and loungewear soon.

“I’m at the point in my life where I am investing in myself,” proclaims Funaro. “I love what I do…and I am pursuing a larger audience!”

There’s no denying Funaro’s unbridled passion, exceptional experience and strong work ethic will serve her well on that quest to build a broader base and become an internationally renowned designer. Vera Wang, you’ve been warned!

Ships Ahoy! Sail Away in This Season’s Hottest Trend: Vertical Stripes

Haider Ackermann - Design

Haider Ackermann - Design

If the winter weather has taken the wind out of your sails, don’t despair. Spring is officially upon us. So put away the warmer clothes and prepare to bask in the Florida sun in seafaring style. The ever-popular nautical trend is back… and it’s brasher than ever!

The marine-inspired style was originally made très chic back in the early 20th century by Coco Chanel, who started dressing in Breton striped shirts, wide-legged sailor pants and flat boating shoes after paying close attention to local fishermen’s attire while on holiday in the French Riviera. Chanel’s nautical nuances quickly gained admiration throughout the world for being casual without appearing careless. Today, this oh-so-versatile trend is considered to be as timeless as the sea.

But a spectacular style-squall has erupted this spring. Designers like Christian Dior, Betsy Johnson and Marc Jacobs haven’t just rediscovered the nautical trend; they’ve spiced up the look and taken it to new heights. Sure you’ll still discover classic striped shirts in navy and white, as well as sailor caps and boating jackets. But some of this year’s most awe-inspiring outfits aren’t just seaworthy; they’re downright glamorous, feminine and even colorful!

A Classic, Reinvented!
Inspired by those traditional sailor-stripes, designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Michael Kors have given the pattern a modern-day makeover. In fact, they’ve taken those small, horizontal navy and blue lines to a whole new level. The stripes have basically been supersized, and they’re available in horizontal, vertical and diagonal patterns—even asymmetric prints—on everything from miniskirts and couture gowns to espadrilles and accessories. And the cuts are bolder and more fashion-forward than ever!

Monochrome Masterpieces
If you’re looking to incorporate the maritime trend into your wardrobe but fear you’ll look like a sailor on leave, don’t despair! This season, designers are creating good-looking garments with black and white stripes that still manage to capture that seagoing-spirit. The looks are simple, fresh and smart and they’ll have you standing out in the crowd in true monochromatic style!

Now if you’re ready to make a strong statement this spring, why not boldly go where no sailor has gone before…in living color! Designers like Isabel Marant and Jill Sander are turning the nautical trend on its ear by infusing that classic stripe pattern with haute hues like burgundy, orange and periwinkle. And, they’re not afraid to mix colors. Neither should you. After all, red and orange have never looked so hot together!

No matter which way you choose to show your stripes, make sure you don’t go overboard. After all, the secret to rocking the nautical trend is to keep it looking simple and effortless.

Extra, extra, read all about it! From Roberto Cavalli and Moschino to Dolce & Gabbana, fashion designers across the globe are continuing to show the love for prints. But that’s not all. They’re taking one of fall’s most popular trends a step further by spicing up their collections with a variety of fashion forward and fabulous patterns that will most certainly help you make a bold fashion statement and stand out in the crowd.

Step into any boutique or department store this spring and you’ll soon encounter prints that are bigger, bolder and more dramatic than ever on everything from one-piece dresses and high-waisted pants to shoes and accessories.

Here’s your guide to this season’s oh-so-smart and stylish patterns:

Go Wild!
It’s a beloved pattern that doesn’t seem to go out of style. And, this season’s fun and flirty animal prints are hauter and more daring than ever with fashion houses like Blumarine putting black and brown leopard spots on base fabrics in colors like turquoise, orange and pink. The end result: striking clothes and accessories with an exotic yet feminine look. So whether you’re looking to punch up a nude dress with chic shoes or assert your style in a long and flowy dress, consider adding a couple of eye-catching animal print pieces to your wardrobe and get ready to show off your wild side.

The Fashion Formula
Don’t worry! Rockin’ a geometric-print tunic won’t require you to explain the difference between an equilateral and isosceles triangle. But you should be prepared for all the attention you’ll receive, especially with the wide range of awe-inspiring graphic patterns that designers like Narciso Rodriguez and Dries Van Noten have created this season. You’ll be able to find those prints on everything from blouses and skirts to coats, even leggings. No matter the print you choose, simple or complicated, you’re bound to look hip and edgy. For maximum impact, why not mix and match different prints to make a sleek and sophisticated statement! And, remember to dress up your outfit with chic accessories like gemstone necklaces and shoes in the same color scheme as the geometric print you’ve chosen to wear.

Flower Power
Call it a breath of fresh air! This spring, you’ll notice a burst of colors and flowers in the latest collections from designers like Alberta Ferretti and Vera Wang. Apparently, they’ve found inspiration in the world’s lush and lovely gardens just in time to create some breathtaking floral prints that will help you radiate femininity with a modern flair. Found on everything from cardigans to jumpsuits, those colorful flower patterns come in a wide variety of styles and sizes and can be worn for any occasion. No matter the floral print, consider pairing it with a solid-color cardigan and minimal accessories to keep your outfit looking trendy and sweet!

So as you’re preparing your wardrobe for spring, stay style-savvy by picking up a few animal, geometric and floral print pieces. Not only will you spring into fashion, but you’ll look great doing it!
